Crockpot French Onion Meatloaf with Melted Swiss Cheese 🍽️🧀
Ingredients:
- 1 pound ground turkey
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup beef broth
- 1/2 cup shredded Swiss cheese
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions:
1. Begin by preparing the onion. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and gently sauté until they are caramelized and golden brown, approximately 15-20 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking. Once done, remove from heat and set aside.
2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, breadcrumbs, minced garlic, egg, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and black pepper. Mix until all ingredients are well integrated and form a cohesive mixture.
3. Incorporate the caramelized onions into the meat mixture, folding them in gently. This will infuse the meatloaf with that delicious, rich onion flavor.
4. Shape the mixture into a loaf shape and place it into your crockpot.
5. Pour the beef broth over the meatloaf to keep it moist as it cooks.
6. Cover the crockpot and set it to low. Cook for 6-7 hours, or until the meatloaf reaches an internal temperature of 165°F.
7. About 30 minutes before serving, carefully remove the lid and sprinkle the shredded Swiss cheese evenly over the meatloaf. Replace the lid and allow the cheese to melt while the meatloaf finishes cooking.
8. Once cooked, carefully remove the meatloaf from the crockpot and let it rest for about 10 minutes.
9. Slice the meatloaf and serve with a sprinkle of fresh parsley on top for that extra touch of flavor and presentation. Enjoy this savory dish with your favorite sides!
