DIY Magic Water Candle

🛒 Supplies Needed:

Makes 1 magic candle

- 1 clear glass or jar (small mason jar, juice glass, or dessert cup)
- Clean water
- Vegetable oil (or olive/sunflower oil)
- 1 small piece of plastic (cut from a bottle cap or clear lid)
- 1 short cotton wick or twisted tissue strip
- A pin or toothpick (to poke a hole in plastic)
- Optional: food coloring, glitter, flowers, or beads (for decoration)
- Lighter or match

---

👨‍🔬 Directions:

Step 1: Prepare Your Container

Fill the clear glass about ⅔ full with water.
Add a drop or two of food coloring if you want a magical glow.
Add optional decorations like glitter, faux flower petals, or small beads to the bottom.

Step 2: Add the Oil Layer

Slowly pour about ½ inch of vegetable oil on top of the water.
The oil will float on top, forming a distinct layer.

Step 3: Make the Floating Wick

Cut a small disc of plastic (about 1 inch across).
Carefully poke a small hole in the center.
Thread a cotton wick or a tightly rolled piece of tissue paper through the hole so a bit sticks out the top and bottom.

Step 4: Assemble the Candle

Gently place the floating wick disc on top of the oil layer, making sure it floats and stays stable.

Step 5: Light It Up!

Light the wick. It will burn slowly on top of the oil while the water beneath remains untouched like magic!
Enjoy the glowing illusion for 30–60 minutes, or until the wick burns down.
