French Onion Ground Beef
Ingredients:
1 lb ground beef
1 medium onion, thinly sliced
2 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon dried thyme
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 cup beef broth
1/2 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
1 tablespoon olive oil
Salt and pepper to taste
Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Directions:
Cook the ground beef:
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned. Drain excess fat if necessary. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Set aside.
Sauté the onions:
In the same skillet, add the butter and sliced onions. Cook over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, until the onions are caramelized and golden brown, about 15-20 minutes.
Prepare the sauce:
Add the garlic powder and dried thyme to the onions, cooking for an additional 1-2 minutes. Pour in the Worcestershire sauce and beef broth, stirring to combine. Bring to a simmer and let cook for another 5 minutes.
Combine beef and cream:
Return the cooked ground beef to the skillet, stirring to combine with the onion mixture. Add the heavy cream and cook for another 2-3 minutes, letting the sauce thicken slightly.
Add the cheese:
Sprinkle the shredded Gruyère cheese over the mixture and stir until melted and creamy.
Serve:
Garnish with fresh parsley, if desired. Serve the French onion ground beef over mashed potatoes, rice, or in a bun as a sandwich.
