Salisbury Steak Meatballs with Mushroom Gravy Recipe

Ingredients:

For the meatballs:

1 lb ground beef
1/4 cup breadcrumbs
1/4 cup milk
1 egg
1/2 onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
Salt and pepper to taste
For the mushroom gravy:

2 tbsp olive oil
8 oz mushrooms, sliced
2 cups beef broth
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup water
Directions:

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, chopped onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
Shape the mixture into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.
Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides, about 6-8 minutes. Remove the meatballs from the skillet and set them aside.
In the same skillet, add the remaining olive oil and sliced mushrooms. Cook the mushrooms until they are soft and browned, about 5 minutes.
Sprinkle the flour over the mushrooms and stir to coat them evenly. Cook for 1-2 minutes to remove the raw flour taste.
Gradually pour in the beef broth, stirring constantly to prevent lumps from forming. Add the water and continue stirring until the gravy thickens, about 3-5 minutes.
Return the meatballs to the skillet, reduce the heat to low, and let them simmer in the gravy for 10-15 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through.
Serve the meatballs hot, with the mushroom gravy spooned over them. They pair well with mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles.
