A basic pantry list of items to have on hand for Chinese cooking from Joyce Chen Cookbook 1962
At the time this was written Chinese ingredients were difficult to find in US grocery stores, even in big cities you had to visit the area's Chinatown section to get what we would consider today as common ingredients. These all still great adds to the pantry.

Soy Sauce
Fish sauce
Hoisin sauce
Peanut oil
Sesame oil
Chili paste
Long grain rice or Jasmine rice
white sesame seeds
Canned water chestnuts
Dried mushrooms
