🍲 Grandma’s Classic Skewer Pot (Schaschliktopf – Just Like Back in the Day)

🛒 Ingredients (serves approx. 4–6 hungry people):

500 g pork stew meat (alternatively: mixed with beef)

3–4 onions, cut into thick slices

2 bell peppers (red + yellow), diced

2 tbsp tomato paste

1 can chopped tomatoes (approx. 400 g)

300 ml broth

1 tsp sweet paprika powder

1/2 tsp hot paprika powder (or chili, depending on heat preference)

1 tsp sugar

2 tbsp vinegar (e.g., white wine vinegar or apple cider vinegar)

Salt, pepper, and a bit of oil for frying

Optional:

2–3 pickles, sliced

Some bacon or Jagdwurst (a type of German sausage) for that true "Grandma feeling"

For later:

1 tbsp flour or cornstarch for thickening

👩‍🍳 Preparation:

Sear the meat in hot oil until browned, then remove from the pot.

In the same pot, sauté the onions until translucent. Briefly roast the tomato paste for extra flavor.

Add the bell peppers, season with paprika, sugar, and vinegar.

Return the meat to the pot, pour in the chopped tomatoes and broth.

Stir everything well and let it simmer gently over medium heat for about 60–90 minutes, until the meat is tender.

Toward the end, optionally mix flour/starch with a bit of cold water, stir it in, and let it simmer for another 5 minutes to thicken the sauce.

Now add the pickles or diced sausage/bacon, adjust the seasoning – and it’s ready!

Goes great with:

Pasta or rice

Mashed potatoes

Or simply fresh bread to soak up the sauce!
