Ingredients:
For the Beef Marinade:
1 lb flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon oyster sauce
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
For the Stir-Fry:
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 large onions, thinly sliced
3 cloves garlic, minced
1-inch piece of ginger, minced
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon oyster sauce
1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
1/4 cup beef broth or water
1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 1 tablespoon water (for thickening)
1/2 teaspoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon white pepper (optional)
Sliced green onions for garnish (optional)
Steamed rice for serving
Instructions:
Marinate the Beef:
Prepare the Beef: In a medium bowl, combine the thinly sliced beef with soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, and vegetable oil. Toss to coat the beef evenly and let it marinate for at least 15 minutes.
Stir-Fry the Beef and Onions:
Cook the Beef: Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat. Add the marinated beef and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until browned and just cooked through. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
Cook the Onions: In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of oil. Add the sliced onions and stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until they start to soften and caramelize. Add the minced garlic and ginger, and stir-fry for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
Make the Sauce: In a small bowl, mix the soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, beef broth, sugar, and white pepper. Pour the sauce over the onions and stir to combine.
Thicken the Sauce: Stir in the cornstarch slurry and cook for 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens.
Combine and Heat Through: Return the cooked beef to the skillet and toss everything together until the beef is heated through and well coated with the sauce.
Serve:
Plate the Dish: Serve the Chinese-style beef and onion stir-fry hot, garnished with sliced green onions if desired, over steamed rice.
Enjoy: Enjoy this flavorful, quick, and satisfying stir-fry thatβs perfect for any night of the week!
