Traditional Rice Cake

• 1 teaspoon baking powder

• Pinch of salt

• Optional: Food coloring (for a decorative touch)

▎Equipment:

• Steamer (or a pot with a steaming rack)

• Mixing bowl

• Whisk or spoon

• Parchment paper

▎Instructions:

1. Prepare the Steamer: Fill the bottom of your steamer with water and bring it to a boil. If you don't have a steamer, you can use a pot with a steaming rack or a heatproof dish that fits inside the pot.

2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, combine the sweet rice flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Mix well.

3. Add Water: Gradually add water to the dry mixture while stirring until you get a smooth batter. If you want to add food coloring, divide the batter into portions and mix in your desired colors.

4. Prepare the Steaming Dish: Line a heatproof dish or cake pan with parchment paper. This will help prevent the rice cake from sticking.

5. Pour the Batter: Pour the batter into the prepared dish, smoothing the top with a spatula.

6. Steam the Rice Cake: Place the dish in the steamer, cover with a lid, and steam for about 30-40 minutes. Check for doneness by inserting a toothpick; it should come out clean when the cake is ready.

7. Cool Down: Once cooked, remove the dish from the steamer and let it cool for about 10 minutes. Then, carefully remove the rice cake from the dish and peel off the parchment paper.

8. Slice and Serve: Allow the rice cake to cool completely before slicing it into pieces. Serve as is or with toppings like honey, red bean paste, or sesame seeds.
