Hawaiian Meatballs

Ingredients:

For the Meatballs:
1 pound ground beef
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1/4 cup milk
1/4 cup chopped onion
1 clove garlic, minced
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
For the Sauce:
1 cup pineapple juice
1/2 cup ketchup
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon vinegar
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 cup water
1 tablespoon cornstarch
For Serving:
Cooked rice
Chopped green onions (optional)
Sesame seeds (optional)
Instructions:

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or grease it lightly.
In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
Shape the mixture into meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter, and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
Bake the meatballs in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until cooked through and browned on the outside.
While the meatballs are baking, prepare the sauce. In a medium saucepan, combine the pineapple juice, ketchup, brown sugar, soy sauce, vinegar, garlic powder, onion powder, ground ginger, and black pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat.
In a small bowl, whisk together the water and cornstarch until smooth. Gradually stir the cornstarch mixture into the simmering sauce. Cook, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens, about 2-3 minutes.
Once the meatballs are done baking, transfer them to a serving dish. Pour the sauce over the meatballs, tossing gently to coat.
Serve the Hawaiian meatballs over cooked rice, garnished with chopped green onions and sesame seeds if desired.
