Wonton Soup 🍜
A comforting, flavorful soup featuring delicate homemade wontons in a fragrant broth with tender vegetables. Perfect for any occasion!
# Ingredients:
For the Wontons:
- 1/2 lb ground chicken or shrimp
- 2 green onions, finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tsp ginger, grated
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1/4 tsp white pepper
- 20-25 wonton wrappers
For the Soup:
- 6 cups chicken broth
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1 tsp ginger, grated
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 cup baby bok choy, chopped
- 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms
- 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
# Directions:
1. Prepare the Wontons:
In a mixing bowl, combine ground chicken or shrimp, green onions, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, and white pepper. Mix until well combined.
Place a wonton wrapper on a clean surface. Add 1 teaspoon of filling to the center of the wrapper.
Wet the edges of the wrapper with water, fold into a triangle, and press to seal. Optionally, bring the corners together to form a classic wonton shape. Repeat with the remaining wrappers and filling.
2. Make the Soup:
In a large pot, heat chicken broth over medium heat. Add soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, and garlic. Bring to a gentle simmer.
Stir in mushrooms and baby bok choy. Cook for 3-4 minutes until tender.
3. Cook the Wontons:
Gently add prepared wontons to the simmering soup. Cook for 4-5 minutes, or until the wontons float to the top and the filling is fully cooked.
4. Serve:
Ladle the soup into bowls, ensuring each serving includes wontons, bok choy, and mushrooms. Garnish with sliced green onions and serve hot.
# Tips:
To save time, assemble the wontons ahead and freeze them. Add frozen wontons directly to the soup, increasing cooking time by 1-2 minutes.
Substitute spinach or napa cabbage for bok choy if preferred.
For an extra layer of flavor, add a dash of chili oil or a splash of rice vinegar before serving.
