Sizzling Chinese Pepper Steak with Onions 🍖
Ingredients:
For the Steak Marinade:
1 lb flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
For the Stir-Fry:
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 large onion, thinly sliced
1 bell pepper (red, green, or yellow), thinly sliced
1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon ginger, minced
For the Sauce:
1/2 cup beef broth
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon oyster sauce
1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
1 tablespoon rice vinegar
1 teaspoon sugar
1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (for thickening)
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional for heat)
Garnishes:
Chopped green onions
Sesame seeds
Cooked white or steamed rice, for serving
Instructions:
Marinate the Steak:
In a medium bowl, combine the soy sauce, cornstarch, and vegetable oil. Add the thinly sliced steak and toss to coat evenly. Let it marinate for at least 15 minutes to lock in flavor.
Prepare the Stir-Fry Sauce:
In a small bowl, whisk together the beef broth, soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, and black pepper. Set aside for later.
Stir-Fry the Vegetables:
Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the sliced onion and bell peppers. Stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until slightly softened. Add the minced garlic and ginger, cooking for 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Remove from the pan and set aside.
Cook the Steak:
Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil to the pan. Add the marinated steak in a single layer and cook for 2-3 minutes per side until browned.
Combine and Finish the Dish:
Add the cooked vegetables back into the pan. Pour the prepared stir-fry sauce over the mixture. Stir everything together and cook for another 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens and everything is heated through.
Serve:
Serve the sizzling pepper steak and onions immediately, garnished with chopped green onions and sesame seeds. Serve over steamed rice for a complete meal.
