Chinese Beef & Onion Stir-Fry
Ingredients:
1 pound (450g) beef flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
1 large onion, sliced
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional)
1 tablespoon cornstarch
2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for cooking)
Salt and pepper, to taste
Optional: Sliced green onions for garnish
Instructions:
Marinate the Beef: In a bowl, combine the sliced beef with 1 tablespoon of soy sauce and 1 tablespoon of cornstarch. Toss to coat evenly. Let it marinate for 10-15 minutes.
Prepare the Sauce: In a small bowl, mix together the remaining 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, oyster sauce (if using), and a pinch of salt and pepper. Set aside.
Cook the Beef: Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the beef in a single layer (cook in batches if necessary) and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes, until browned and just cooked through. Remove the beef and set aside.
Sauté the Onion and Garlic: In the same pan, add the remaining tablespoon of oil. Add the sliced onion and sauté for 2-3 minutes until softened. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds, until fragrant.
Combine and Finish: Return the cooked beef to the pan. Pour the stir-fry sauce over the mixture and toss to coat everything evenly. Stir-fry for an additional 2-3 minutes, until everything is heated through.
Serve: Taste and adjust seasoning with more salt or pepper if necessary. Garnish with sliced green onions (optional) and serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.
