The Rice Krispies treat was created in 1939 by Kellogg's Home Economics Department employee Mildred Day and her co-worker Malitta Jensen. The recipe was likely inspired by one that used molasses and puffed wheat. The recipe was first printed on the side of a cereal box in 1941.
