Steak Fried Rice Recipe
Ingredients
For the Steak:
1 lb (450g) flank steak or sirloin steak, thinly sliced against the grain
2 tablespoons olive oil or vegetable oil
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon black pepper
For the Fried Rice:
3 cups cooked jasmine rice (preferably cold, day-old rice works best)
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 medium onion, finely chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 cup frozen peas and carrots (or any mix of your favorite vegetables)
2 large eggs, lightly beaten
3 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon oyster sauce
1 teaspoon sesame oil
2 green onions, sliced for garnish
Instructions
Prepare the Steak:
Marinate the Steak:
In a bowl, combine the sliced steak, soy sauce, garlic powder, and black pepper. Toss to coat evenly and let it marinate for 10-15 minutes while you prepare the other ingredients.
Cook the Steak:
Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the marinated steak and cook for 3-4 minutes until it’s browned and cooked through, stirring occasionally. Remove the steak from the pan and set it aside.
Prepare the Fried Rice:
Cook the Eggs:
In the same skillet or wok, add another tablespoon of oil. Pour in the beaten eggs and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring to scramble them. Once the eggs are fully cooked, transfer them to a plate and set them aside.
Sauté the Vegetables:
In the same pan, add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Cook for 2-3 minutes until fragrant and softened. Add the peas and carrots (or any other vegetables you’re using) and cook for another 2 minutes until they’re heated through.
Add the Rice:
Add the cold, day-old rice to the pan, breaking up any clumps with a spatula. Stir to combine the rice with the vegetables and cook for 3-4 minutes, allowing the rice to get lightly crispy in places.
Season the Rice:
Pour in the soy sauce, oyster sauce (if using), and sesame oil. Stir well to evenly coat the rice in the sauce. Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed.
Combine the Steak and Eggs:
Add the cooked steak and scrambled eggs back into the pan. Stir to combine everything evenly and cook for another 1-2 minutes until everything is heated through.
Garnish and Serve:
Top the fried rice with sliced green onions for a fresh crunch. Serve hot and enjoy!
