Chinese Beef and Onion Stir Fry
🥩 1 lb flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced
🧅 1 large onion, sliced
🧄 3 cloves garlic, minced
🛢️ 2 tbsp vegetable oil
🌿 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)
🌶️ ½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
For the Marinade:
🍚 2 tbsp soy sauce
🍯 1 tbsp oyster sauce
🍚 1 tsp cornstarch
🍶 1 tsp sesame oil
🧂 ½ tsp white pepper
For the Stir-Fry Sauce:
🍚 2 tbsp soy sauce
🍯 1 tbsp oyster sauce
🍶 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
🥄 1 tbsp rice vinegar
🍚 ½ cup beef broth
🌽 1 tsp cornstarch (mixed with 1 tbsp water)
Directions:
1️⃣ Marinate the Beef: In a bowl, mix soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, sesame oil, and white pepper. Add the sliced beef, toss to coat, and marinate for 15-20 minutes.
2️⃣ Prepare the Sauce: In a separate bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, beef broth, and cornstarch slurry. Set aside.
3️⃣ Stir-Fry the Beef: Heat 1 tbsp oil in a wok or large pan over high heat. Add the beef and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until browned. Remove from pan and set aside.
4️⃣ Cook Onions & Garlic: Add another 1 tbsp oil to the pan. Stir-fry onions and garlic for 2 minutes until onions are slightly softened.
5️⃣ Combine Everything: Return the beef to the pan. Pour in the stir-fry sauce, stirring quickly to coat everything. Cook for 1-2 more minutes until the sauce thickens.
6️⃣ Garnish & Serve: Top with green onions and serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.
